SUMMER by Stephen Yau. Watercolour.

At a recent meeting of the Dynasty Watercolour Association, the world-renowned Hong Kong-born Canadian artist Stephen Yau demonstrated his brilliant mastery of the watercolour medium by painting a summer scene of the birch forest, one in his series of four seasons:

Dynasty Watercolour Association (DWA) is a self-funded voluntary organization, committed to promoting art in watercolour particularly among artists in the Asian community. The main objectives are to encourage and nurture excellence in art work within an art world strongly influenced by Western civilization. Through promoting and introducing new perspectives from its members, DWA aims to enrich their experience by creating a platform for them to participate and share in various art activities, to maintain and promote cultural harmony, and to raise their profiles within the mainstream art community. It also offers opportunities for artists new to the country and those visiting to share their international art experience. This network of artists come together and learn from each other in supporting their diverse and evolving styles and approaches to making art work in watercolour.

DWA had its inaugural meeting in 2009 and has since continued to meet monthly at the Langstaff Community Centre in Richmond Hill, Ontario. The monthly meetings include demonstrations of established guest and member artists, discussions of trends and movements in arts, and critiques and appreciation of members’ art work and those of other renowned artists around the world.
DWA members have enjoyed and learned from the dynamic, educational and collaborative learning environment. With the talents and resources from its members, DWA plans to continue to have its annual art show to share their joy in arts with the public.

Established in Toronto under the mentorship of Mr. Ben Lee, an established artist in watercolour, DWA encompasses professional and amateur artists from diverse cultures with talents particularly in watercolour. Many of them received training from prestigious art academies, such as the Ontario College of Arts and Design (OCAD), and other art institutes around the world. They are also active in local art associations and other established watercolour societies and associations, including the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (CSPWC) and Toronto Watercolour Society (TWC).

Interested artists at different levels are welcome to visit DWA’s monthly meetings. Schedules and the location can be found at the DWA website http://www.dynastywatercolourassociation.webs.com.
